Chicago Style Italian Beef Sandwich

A classic comfort food that comes from the streets of Chicago is the Chicago Style Italian Beef Sandwich. This sandwich is hearty and savory, with tender beef slow-cooked with tasty Italian seasonings and served on crusty Italian rolls. It's great for a meal any day of the week.

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs beef chuck roast

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 cup Italian dressing

  • 1/4 cup giardiniera peppers

  • 1/4 cup pepperoncini peppers

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 6 Italian sandwich rolls

  • Provolone cheese slices optional

Instructions:

In a slow cooker, combine beef broth, Italian dressing, giardiniera peppers, pepperoncini peppers, onion, garlic, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and pepper


Add beef chuck roast to the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or until the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork


Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks


Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and let it soak in the cooking juices for another 30 minutes


To assemble the sandwiches, slice the Italian sandwich rolls and fill them with the shredded beef and some of the cooking juices


Add provolone cheese slices if desired


Serve hot and enjoy!
